I am so glad that stumbled across Mexican textile artist Victoria Villasana. She takes black and white photos of cultural icons, such as Marilyn Monroe and Nina Simone, and embroiders atop of the image. But not only that, she takes her artistry to the streets by creating everything from murals and “yard bombings.” It is fascinating to see her interest in cultures and the human spirit come alive in her art. I would have never thought that adding embroidery to a vintage photo would be such a breath of fresh air.
If you are also interested in purchasing some of her art you can find it here.
